Tooth Whitening
Did you know? Studies show that the facial attributes people notice first are your eyes and your smile?
Why tooth whitening?
Tooth whitening is designed to enhance your appearance by minimizing discoloration and staining to highlight your brighter,
whiter smile.
Tooth discoloration and staining is a relatively common problem. Your teeth are porous and are therefore not stain resistant.
Since having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, there are a several ways to whiten and brighten your teeth. The most popular method is using a home tooth whitening system that will whiten teeth dramatically.
Tooth whitening is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the color of natural tooth enamel and is an ideal way to enhance your smile.
What is the whitening process?
At-home tooth whitening usually requires two office visits. At the first appointment, impressions, or molds, of your
teeth are taken to create custom trays.
Since tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is also important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match your newly whitened teeth.
During your second visit, you will try on the trays for proper fit, and adjustments will be made if necessary. The trays are worn with whitening solution either twice a day for 30-45 minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening.
We also offer in-office laser bleaching. During your first office visit and examination, Dr. Fatemi will help you to determine which method is the best option for you.
Will my teeth be sensitive after whitening?
It is normal to experience tooth sensitivity during the time you are whitening your teeth, but it will subside
shortly after you have stopped whitening. In some cases of patients with very sensitive teeth, we will send you
home with fluoride to use in the trays for about one week before using the whitening solution. This will help to
decrease sensitivity during the whitening process.
For most people, the results will last for many years. A touch-up maybe needed from time to time, depending on the amount of stain causing agents you consume. Our office will provide you with care instructions for your teeth and trays, and we encourage you to maintain a regular cleaning and exam routine to help preserve your new gorgeous, healthy, white smile!
